Be Strong, Cheer Up

Posted by Shyle on 4:29 AM in
I have just moved on from the horrible trials that attacked me as a teacher this new year. I thanked God for healing the wounds in my heart which were created by my pupil's grandparents and school principal. It's one of the biggest trials I ever had in my life. It didn't only make me depressed but also so discouraged with my workplace. It's not really easy when the evil used your boss in measuring your faith in him and God. The only line which I couldn't forget was "Be strong, Cheer up". It was uttered by our district guidance councilor when I confessed to her my heartaches. She said to me this advice, "It's the test from God on how strong you are". I was pondering on it many times. At first I couldn't really accept the decision of my school principal. But thanks God at this time I have a happy heart already. God is really so good when the case filed against me by my pupil's grandmother about the stealing of cellphone was withdrawn by her also.

Life must go on. It is not right to dwell in the lonely moments for we will become the loser in the fight for happiness. This time we are having our review class for the National Achievement Test this coming March for Grades III and VI every weekdays at 4:00 to 5:00 P.M and whole day every Saturday. I just hope and pray God will still abide us and our pupils during that day so we could get higher mastery level in all areas of the test.

What Did I do Wrong?

Posted by Shyle on 4:57 AM in
How can teachers be protected from harassment inside his room? Can the school principal recommend a complainant of his teacher to the barangay office without settling it first in his office?

These are the questions that really bothered in my mind today.

Yesterday morning, one of my pupils got the wallet of his seatmate who is the daughter of one of my colleagues. We have proven that he was the one getting the wallet and spending all the money inside it. And besides many saw the incident, too. Parents of the pupils who were waiting outside the school near the canteen and his classmates who were taking snacks together with him saw that he was holding a black wallet and got the money inside it. After he spent all the money, he threw that wallet near the canal and the store where he bought the foods.

The mother of my victimed pupil caught him and let him get the wallet he thrown. He accepted what he did. However, the grandmother who is the guardian of this accused pupil who was stealing the wallet got shamed. But unfortunately, she was confronting me and asking why we allow his son to be shamed by his classmates which is not true. I explained to her what happened but she never listened. It seems that she tolerate waht her grandson done. To make the story short I decided to asked forgiveness, thinking that she will be okay. However, It become worst than I expected.

I thought it was done already but this morning, she talked our principal about her complains. We waited when to be called to the office to talk to the grandmother of the accused together with the mother of the victim pupil. To my surprise, when our principal told me that he recommended that old lady to file a case against me to the barangay office. I was so upset to the three administrators we have in our district. A principal, an assistant principal and district supervisor who never gave me chance to explain what really happened. I am really mad with them why I as their teacher in the school didn't receive any consoles to them. I really don't expect that I have already a case filed against me by that old woman the grandmother of the accused pupil.

When the wife of the barangay captain knew about it who is my co-teacher too, she told her husband not to accept the case filed because it is not yet settled in the school.

I am so depressed. I am just hoping and praying this will be settled tomorrow.

Why Teachers Look For A Sideline Business Aside From Teaching?

Posted by Shyle on 6:09 AM in

Many people think that teachers in the Philippines are receiving high salary for their services rendered. But Yes! It is partly true. However, teachers' expenses in the classroom is bigger than the net income received by many teachers now. Most of us spend much in the classroom structuring, landscaping, buying for instructional materials and devices, contributions and own school supplies. All are taken from our salary. It is sad to think but we have no choice. We can't also afford to teach without using instructional materials for we know that there's no good outcome in using traditional teaching strategy especially the CHALK TALK.

Even the unmarried teachers today are dying for the low net pay received. We are shrinking and drowning already to the deepest part of the ocean. We needed a great help. We feel envy with the office personnel wherein all their office supplies are taken from the MOOE. They didn't spend even a single peso for their offices. Even one page they spent for photocopying is charge to school fund. But we, teachers spend hundreds or even thousands of pesos for that. Test papers, stories, pictures, activity sheets and worksheets are taken from our pockets.

Though we are happy and enjoy with what we did and shared to our learners yet, it cannot be avoided to feel this way. We have our own family too. We have our own house that needed to be improved too. However, even the hole of our roofs cannot be fixed due to the shortage of budget. How much more to the teachers who have college students already. I can only feel it because two years from now I can have a college student and this time I am buried with debts already.

I couldn't think of a good reason why I'm buried. But yes, I had bought a motorcycle, desktop and some appliances through lending a money from a bank. But now
, I can't recover yet. This is the reason why I am one of the teachers who looked for a sideline business to go out from the hole where I'm buried. Every afternoon and weekends I bring stocks like pants for men and women, pedals, poloshirts, lotion and others which was sent to me by my friend in Manila. I really felt very tired everytime I went home, but I have to work and find customers to earn additional income.

Business outside from my job is enjoyable too. I really earned additional income but I know the effectiveness of my teaching is not the same as when I am focus with my job as a teacher. There is a little difference but eventhough I am tired always and have a sideline business I still do my best to serve my learners the best food which I cook for them every weekdays days.

Successful Homeroom PTA Meeting

Posted by Shyle on 5:49 AM in

I had called up a Parents Meeting this afternoon and I thank God that it was very successful. We had talked so many important things especially the school project. We had agreed to install a water system near our classroom. But surprisingly, one of the parents shouldered the materials like hose, faucet and others. What we needed is the money for labor only. It's really a great blessing. And aside from that he shouldered the repair of our ceiling fan too! Wow! What a generous heart. The parents were very happy too. We only agreed to contribute 20 pesos for the labor including the other things needed for the benefit of our school children.

A Remarkable Day

Posted by Shyle on 6:57 PM in ,
I was absent yesterday afternoon for important matters which I need to be done. At 12:00 noon, I went to Jarls Lending company to meet my customers there. You will wonder why I have customers from that company aside from my real clients in education. It's just about a sideline business. I was happy because I had collected some amount for the payment of their credits from me and purchased many items to be paid in August. I had finished my business there for 30 minutes when my mother texted me to go home because we will attend the necrological service of my relatives family whom our lola passed away and to be buried 1 meter below the ground yesterday. I went home but nobody was left. I looked for my key but it was not in my bag. Ohhh! I was thinking of how to get inside the house. I really need to open the house to take my lunch and get my pack bag to be ready for our appointment at 3 p.m. But when I tried to open the door, it was not locked by my mother so I had went inside. I ate my lunch and prepared some of things to be brought in the hospital. Why I will go to the hospital?hehe. We had agreed with my colleagues to have a medical check up at Misamis University Hospital at Ozamiz City and travel at 3 pm. That's why I have to bring my things because after the necrological service we will travel already.

At 3 p.m, we waited for a bus but unfortunately we had rode at 4 p. m. already and reached there at 5 p.m. I was in hurry and wanted to be admitted in the hospital immediately because at 6 p.m I have another appointment online because yesterday was the birthday of my beloved partner in life. I need to meet him online because it was a special day for him and we're far away from each other. But the hospital did not accept us because there was no room for us in the hospital. There were many patients wherein only the ICU and surgical ward is available. Ohhh! What a day! We had nothing to do but to go back on our way home and decided to go back to the hospital next friday. My co-teacher invited us to eat first before going home, So we ate our dinner at Jollibee. I always looked at my watch because of my appointment online. It was already 6 o'clock when we finished eating.

We went to the bus terminal but when we reached there, there were many passengers waited for a bus. I was so worried already of not meeting him online. Yet I decided to ride in a van so I can really go home ahead of them because they will not ride in a van vehicle. Fortunately, I had accommodated in a van vehicle together with one of my co-teachers who decided to ride in a van too. Our van departed at 6:15 p.m. I was very happy at first thinking that I can still meet my date online. He sent me a message at that time that he was online already but I asked him to wait for me.

But, an accident happened. Our vehicle bumped a motorcycle which crossed the street without noticing us. The side mirror and brake of our vehicle was damaged but I still thanked God that no one of the passengers got hurt. Yet, the driver and conductor wanted the motorcycle driver pay the damages. That's why we transferred to another vehicle. We waited for 5 minutes to ride another vehicle to send us home. At 6:30 p.m we had rode another van and sent us home.

I thanked God for sending us home safely and met my partner, lover and hubby to be online who is working in KSA now.

Educational Books

Posted by Shyle on 2:33 AM in
I am so blessed this day that a representative from a book publishing company promoted and offered to me the lowest price of the 2 sets of books which were his gifts for being the Top Seller last year. It was so amazing to know that the eight pieces of hardbound books cost only five hundred pesos (P500.00. I am really convinced of the price. It is really very very very low. However, I still scanned the books to know the contents and how useful they are as references. The books contain all the lessons for the high school and elementary students. I found it very interesting and useful as references. It is also very timely that my daughter will step another milestone higher next school year 2010-2011. And aside from that I have a third-year high school son too next school year. They are really good reference books for their studies. I am very grateful to the salesman and to God for bringing the books to me with affordable price and useful contents.

Grade Six Pupils' Graduation Song

Posted by Shyle on 10:57 PM in
Graduation day is a memorable day for all graduating pupils that signifies their victory as evidenced by the most authentic certificates and a manifestation of their labor and splendid desire for knowledge. These days, Grade Six teachers are very busy preparing all the things needed for the 2010 Graduation Day for it is the first graduation day that will be attended by our new Assistant Schools Division Superintendent.
The most important thing they did was the selection of the graduation song, graduating pupils' tribute to their parents, the song for invocation, Philippine National Anthem and Oroquieta City March. Since our National Achievement Test was done already and they thought that I have the potential to select songs aside from being a computer literate, my co-teacher, the adviser of the grade six pupils' first section, tapped me to do it. I willingly accepted the favor she asked in the sense that it is not hard for me to do it because we have an internet connection in our house. I hunted mp3 songs to Music Search Engine, listened and internalized the meaning of each song I had selected to choose one that is suited for the theme, "Changing Lives: Edukasyon and Solusyon" and could touches the hearts of the parents and audience. I had listened many songs from Sarah Geronimo entitled "I'll Be Alright and We are Tomorrow". I found it meaningful and appropriate for the graduating pupils to continue their journey to this challenging world. I recommended it to the teachers and they found it appropriate. They were very thankful of my helping hand and asked again another favor in the printing of names on the graduating pupils' certificates.

Women In Government Service (WINGS)

Posted by Shyle on 5:50 PM in

Women in our place are really given equal importance by the government. That's why the organization Women In Government Service or popularly known as WINGS is organized. There are many activities prepared for the celebration of Women's Day. One of those is the Ginang ng Oroquieta 2010.

Yesterday, was the selection for Ginang ng Oroquieta 2010 with the theme: "Babae Tagumpay ng Bayan". The selection was done to show to the people that women are still preserving their beauty and health ,eventhough they have children already, for their family and the community they are serving. There were 9 lovely candidates joined in the competition who came from the different agencies of Oroquieta City. I was so amazed of the Nanays who were so beautiful and sexy on stage and felt nervous too for our contestant in the district who is obviously a first timer of joining a beauty and brain contest like it.

I was tapped by my co-teacher to be her assistant in designing an improvised gown for our Ginang ng Oroquieta 2010. I was so hesitant at first for I can get any idea of the improvised gown design. However,I can't refuse her asking for a favor. But thanks God that we have made it successfully, though our design was not the best but we were proud of our it.

Luckily our contestant was selected for the magic five candidates and got the title of fourth runner-up. And aside from that she won the Best Indigenous/Recycled Attire and Best Western Attire. Five of us who were called as her Alalay really jumped happily for we didn't expect that her performance on stage caught the interest of the board of judges.

Teach Globally, Grow Professionally

Posted by Shyle on 6:42 PM in
Children are born to save the decreasing quality of education today. They are keys for our good future. They are the hope of our nation. And these are the reasons why teachers need to mold them well into a useful citizen in the country.

Molding minds of the youngsters is not an easy task. It needs to be planned well so that the time, effort and money spend for it will not be a waste but is useful and appropriate to their needs. Proper planning should really be done for children have the right to acquire a quality education from the agents of education. They must be equipped with appropriate skills with desirable values imbued. Role-modeling strategy is a very effective strategy in teaching-learning processes. Children learn more on what they observed from their teachers. Therefore, teachers must act as role-models for what they do and say is always right in the eyes of the pupils.

How could teachers teach globally? Aside from being service-oriented teaches, they need to be research-oriented too. It is evident for teachers to search for new teching strategies and teachniques and to make innovations of it in order to fit to their learners' needs. Browsing through the internet is one way to learn different and varied teaching strategies and techniques. Though it needs innovations but through researching and searching, learners are not the only benefactors but as well as the teachers themselves. Thus, making them grow professionally.

Another way is by attending different seminars and trainings and enroling in the graduate studies.Enhancing teacher's knowledge in handling different kinds of learners and understanding more on the true nature of teachers career is very essential. Studying more on child's development, principles of education and teaching strategies will help much in achieving teachers' ultimate goal in teaching. If teachers are growing professionally, I believe that they can teach also globally and make education in the Philippines globally competitive.

Plant a Tree, Grow a Flower-Let's Hep Mother Earth give back her Power

Posted by Shyle on 7:34 AM in
Mother Earth is the giver and sustainer of all human life on earth. But now, she is crying for help. Does this mean that she has no enough power to give and sustain life on earth? How can we help her give back her power?

Mother earth wants the people know her pitiful situation now through letting us experience different tragedies. She did this to all the people living on earth in order for us to realize how horrible are the things we do to her. She wants us to feel that she is dying now and shouting for help. But do people hear her shouting? Do strong typhoons and El Niño we experienced not enough for us to stop hurting our Mother earth and killing her gradually?

How can we really help Mother Earth give back her power? The government launched a project called, "Plant A Tree and Grow With Me" wherein school children were given trees' seedlings to be planted within their house yard. The program is so great for it gives opportunity to all school children to help save Mother Earth and will probably brighten their future someday. It is not only until planting but the government always monitoring the seedlings they distributed.

Oroquieta City was awarded as the cleanest and greenest city in the whole Philippines. It's our gratitude to all leaders who started this project because we all know that planting trees is one way of giving back what we possibly take for granted and to give back Mother Earth’s power. We can all do our part in helping to restore the Mother Earths power. I will certainly do my part, and wish to spread the word to bring about a change to our world.
