Diabetic Diet Plan

Food tastes much better when we eat while actually hungry. This is the reason why many human beings got unhealthy and diabetic because of not choosing their food correctly. Diabetes is really an unwanted disease to everybody because of the bad effects of a person's health and could hinder to any activities that you want in life.

I have two young colleagues in our school who are diabetic. I think they have the type 2 diabetes because according to their doctor, as they talked to me, there's no cure for their disease. How I am really sad listening to their experiences of controlling their food intake to control their blood sugar and avoid the attack of their diabetic.

In our school, we have a so called "Purok" which means small group of teachers who exists in one school. They said, "Birds with the same feathers flock together" that's why in our school there are 3 different groups of birds who have the same feathers. My colleagues who have diabetes belong to our group which is called "A Canteen Group". Our group has that name because we always huddle in the canteen where one of our co-teacher established her small business. We always have eating sessions there. Sometimes we chipped in and sometimes one of us will treat. But these two diabetic teachers always got jealous of our enjoyment eating those delicious foods because of their disease. They really avoid eating those sweet foods who can trigger the attack of their diabetes. They maintain taking medicines to keep their blood sugar under control. We feel pity to them but supporting them from preventing complications is a great help we can give.

They should make a healthful lifestyle choices in diet, exercise and other health habits because those activities will help them improve blood sugar control and prevent or minimize complications of diabetes.

Here are some of the diabetic diet plan:

1. Diet: A healthy diet is key to controlling blood sugar levels and preventing diabetes complications. Regular exercise, in any form, can also help reduce the risk of developing diabetes.

2. Alcohol Intake: Moderate or eliminate consumption of alcohol.

3. Cigarette Smoking: If the patient has diabetes, and smoke or use any other form of tobacco, they are raising the risks markedly for nearly all of the complications of diabetes. Smoking damages blood vessels and contributes to heart disease, stroke, and poor circulation in the limbs. If someone needs help quitting, talk to a healthcare provider.

4. Monitor: Check blood sugar levels frequently, at least before meals and at bedtime, and record the results in a logbook.
