Today is our schedule of returning textbooks distributed to the pupils at the beginning of the school year. I really got exhausted checking and retrieving all the books because I've found out that there are many lost books. I really felt bad of the number of books lost made by the pupils especially the Grade III pupils in the lower sections. I advised them to spend more time in looking for it to avoid accountabilities in the school.
Losses of textbooks made by the pupils is one of the many problems met by all teachers in public schools. It is a great burden for us for the reason that we will not be granted for clearance unless lost books will be accounted for. Monitoring books is one of the hardest tasks for teachers. Some teachers didn't allow pupils to bring their books at home, instead, they only allow them to use books inside the classroom to avoid accountabilities because they can easily monitor those books used in school than letting them bring home. Some pupils dropped or transferred out too from the school without returning the books and whereabouts is unknown. Some lost the books due to negligence. And some books are lost due to natural causes like typhoon, flood or earthquake, fire, theft and casualty.
I've been paying for the lost books made by the pupils every year just to be cleared in the school. I am the one giving the monetary payment in the sense that most of my pupils belong to poor families and they refuse to pay for it. Though some parents paid but most of them refused. However, I am delighted and thankful upon reading the DepEd Order No. 25 S. 2003 dated April 4, 2003 with the title of Resolving Losses of Textbooks which suggests teachers on the proper solution of the the lost textbooks made by the pupils. I am really grateful to our school administrator that the DepED order reach in my hands for many of us haven't read this DepED Order. I'm very thankful that I have read all the guidelines and requisites for relief from accountability. And I'm posting this on my blog to share to all teachers in the Philippines about the said DepED order that will help us lighten our burdens as teachers. Let us be happy and enjoy with our career and take away all stressful situations encountered in the service for God is always watching us ready to help and guide those who ask and believe Him.
